The Revive Community CLG; Empowering Widows in Tanzania and Beyond

At Revive Community Company Limited by Guarantee, our mission is to empower widows in Tanzania and beyond by providing holistic support services aimed at addressing their basic needs, fostering economic and social empowerment, and promoting legal advocacy and rights awareness.

Our programs and initiatives are carefully designed to provide holistic support to widows, addressing not only their immediate needs but also empowering them to build sustainable livelihoods. From providing essential resources such as food and financial assistance to offering skill-building workshops and legal advocacy, we strive to equip widows with the tools they need to thrive.

Understanding the Challenges

Widowhood in Africa is often marked by gender bias and systemic challenges. While over 80% of African men remain married from their early 30s to 80s, the situation is starkly different for women. Most African women are married by the age of 30, but the number of married women drops below 80% after they attain 40 years. By the time African women reach 65, widows are as numerous as married women. This disparity highlights the urgent need for targeted support and intervention.

Facing Injustice

About 1 in 10 women in Africa aged 15 and above are widows, with approximately 72% of these women serving as the heads of their households. Shockingly, a significant percentage of African widows are quite young, with around 3% of African women ages 15-49 becoming widows at some point. Widows in Africa face a myriad of social injustices, including lack of access to productive assets, loss of land, discrimination, and false accusations.

Our Approach

Through our programs and initiatives, we aim to tackle these challenges head-on. From providing immediate assistance to addressing long-term needs, we are committed to ensuring that widows have the support they need to rebuild their lives with dignity and resilience.

Join us in our mission to empower widows and create a future where every woman has the opportunity to thrive, regardless of her marital status.
